4 Victims Shot at Howe Park - Unauthorized Gathering Ends in Shooting
On the evening of Saturday April 18, an unauthorized gathering of a large crowd at Howe Community Park in Sacramento in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade neighborhood turned violent when 20 to 25 rounds were fired as deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office were attempting to dispersing the crowd.
How It Unfolded
Around 6:30 in the evening, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department got reports concerning persons reportedly carrying concealed firearms at the park. Another caller indicated a possible altercation and individuals fleeing the scene.
Air support was dispatched and surveyed the area from above but found no evidence of any active disturbance.
Nonetheless, an estimated several hundred attendees had congregated at Howe Park for what authorities described as an unapproved assembly. Responding deputies positioned themselves around the park, activated their vehicle emergency lights, and used roughly 15 minutes directing the crowd to leave over their vehicle speakers.
As officers worked to clear the park, 20 to 25 rounds of gunfire echoed through the area — causing hundreds to flee in panic.
The Injured
